2014 is the centenary commemoration of the outbreak of World War One, and the Ebor Singers mark this with a performance of Parry’s Songs of Farwell, completed in 1918 shortly before his own death and the end of the war.
Germany and France are also represented in this programme, Max Reger’s somber Nachtleid and Maurice Ravel’s sparkling Trois Chansons. These pieces are set alongside more recent responses to war and loss, Philip Moore’s Three Prayers of Dietrich Bonhoeffer and Michael Tippett’s Five Negro Spirituals.
